Meet Stephen Flanagan

Stephen Flanagan is the founder and principal of Studio One, a small practice focusing on architecture and interiors. The firm was founded on the fundamental premise that we see with more than our eyes and that architecture’s true impact is not on our surroundings, but within us. Through a careful reading of the landscape and  collaborative  dialogue with clients, Stephen strives to see beyond expectations, weaving the art of listening into the contextual fabric of each design endeavor.

Prior to starting his own firm in 2004, Stephen’s architectural experience concentrated on larger institutional work including  facilities for healthcare, laboratory sciences, higher education, multi-family housing, and cultural arts facilities, including working on the High Museum Expansion with the Renzo Piano Building Workshop and Lord Aeck Sargent. Stephen has also worked for the firms of Stanley Beaman Sears, NBBJ, and CNDAC. His current work since founding Studio One has concentrated on smaller scale hospitality, wellness and residential design, with project scopes  ranging from 2,500 - 25,000sqft throughout the United States.

In addition to receiving numerous design awards and contributing articles to professional design journals, Stephen’s work has been published internationally, in both magazines and multiple books. He is also a published photographer, noted jewelry designer and furniture designer. Stephen is a member of the American Institute of Architects, former Georgia chapter board member of the International Interior Design Association, as well as an inventor and patent holder, having licensed his own intellectual property, and worked on product design for a wide array of commercial applications.

Stephen currently resides in Atlanta, GA.
