The small basement addition was designed to create a children's space and in-law suite, along with a home office and storage in keeping with the trim level and interior design of the rest of the home. Existing windows were lowered and a barrel vaulted ceiling was created along with indirect cove lighting behind crown molding. Double pocketing doors maximize both the sense of space and free flow of circulation within a modest footprint. Combined, the overall effect creates an open, airy renovation that helps erase the knowledge the tiny floor is largely underground.
